What are you building?
Each project type has its own site with plain-English guides to the WA rules. Whichever you pick, your quote comes through here.
Sheds and garages
Outbuildings, workshops and garages. Most need a permit once they are over 10 m².
Visit site →Pergolas, patios and decks
Attached patios, verandahs, roofed pergolas and raised decks.
Visit site →Carports
Including carports in the front setback, which often need planning approval too.
Visit site →Granny flats
Up to 70 m² can skip planning approval on most residential lots. A permit is still required.
Visit site →Tiny homes
On wheels or on a slab. We work out which approval yours needs and apply for you.
Visit site →Pools and spas
Pool permits and barrier compliance, including above-ground and plunge pools.

Do I need a permit in WA?
The short version for the most common projects. Your council can add local rules, so we always confirm before you build.
| Project | Building permit? |
|---|---|
| Freestanding shed up to 10 m² and 2.4 m tall | Usually not |
| Bigger shed, or any garage | Yes |
| Patio attached to the house | Yes |
| Carport | Yes, and planning approval if it is in the front setback |
| Granny flat up to 70 m² | Yes (planning approval usually not needed) |
| Tiny home on wheels, longer than a few nights | Local government approval instead |
| Pool or spa deeper than 300 mm | Yes, plus a compliant barrier |

Questions
Common questions
What does GetMyPermit actually do?
We prepare and lodge building permit and council approval applications for you. That means the site plan and drawings, the application forms, owner consent, any engineering or surveyor certificates the job needs, lodging with your council and answering their questions until the permit is issued.
How much does it cost?
Every job gets a fixed price before you commit, so you know the total up front. The price depends on the project and on what your council needs. Council fees and levies are set by the WA Building Regulations and are a small percentage of the value of the work.
How long does a building permit take in WA?
Once an application is lodged, a council has up to 25 business days to decide a standard (uncertified) application, or 10 business days for a certified application that comes with a private building surveyor's certificate. Getting the plans and documents ready usually takes a few days to a week.
Do you cover my council?
We work with councils across the Perth metro area and regional Western Australia. Each council has its own forms and local rules, and we check your project against them before lodging.
Can you help if I already built without a permit?
Yes. Unapproved patios, sheds and carports are common, and they often surface when a house is sold. We arrange the inspection and certificate from a registered building surveyor and lodge a Building Approval Certificate application. See retrospective approval.
Are you building surveyors?
No. We are a permit paperwork service. When a job needs a registered building surveyor, an engineer or a draftsperson, we bring them in and manage them for you, so you still deal with one contact.
Hand over the paperwork.
Pick your project, tell us about it, and we take it from there: plans, forms, council, and updates until your permit is issued.
